The Position
We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Accountant to be part of a growing Finance team.
The position reports directly to the Associate Director, SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting, and supports leaders and peers by developing, implementing, and documenting processes and procedures to scale with Verve's continued growth.
The Senior Accountant is a key contributor in the monthly and quarterly close processes, as well as in the internal and external financial reporting process.
Job Responsibilities
Perform, and assist with, day-to-day accounting tasks including preparation of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliation analyses for various accounts
Prepare monthly contract accruals for preclinical related work
Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal control requirements as a public company (SOX 404b)
Assist in preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with SEC regulations (Forms 10-Q and 10-K)
Prepare audit-ready supporting documentation for all financial information disclosed in quarterly reports
Assist in the preparation of financial information for earnings releases
Prepare the balance sheet, P&L, cash flow statement, equity roll forward and earnings per share calculations
Review third party valuation reports and prepare related journal entries associated with the fair value measurements
Coordinate with internal and external auditors to provide audit support for responsible areas and resolve any internal control items as needed
Review P&L accounts for responsible areas to resolve classification issues
Ensure that balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules and related analyses are completed on a timely basis and in accordance with the period-end closing schedule
Assist with special projects, such as ERP/ Procurement system implementations, updates, and business process improvements
Other responsibilities, as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
5+ years of experience including public accounting and/or biotech, both preferred
CPA license preferred
Thorough understanding of basic GAAP accounting
High proficiency with Excel and demonstrated ability to learn and navigate complex ERP systems
Excellent organizational skills and demonstration of strong attention to detail
Ability to work both independently, and within a highly collaborative team setting, while delivering on deadlines
Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of audiences
Flexible, personable team-player, comfortable in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company
